#2. the in-laws

as a way of thanking people for helping make the cafe the way it is today, i am going to write a series of posts. this is the second.

when we bought the lease to the premises of jemz meeting place, i don't think julie and i quite understood the sheer size of the task at hand to make our dream come true. if you are ever curious to see how this place used to look before cafe haven, you can give yourself a surprise by clicking here:

it was, to say the least, a mammoth task and we only had one month's free rent as a cushion. we arrived with tools at the ready around mid-October hoping we could do the renovations effectively and efficiently.

integral to this task, were rejean and louisette daigle - my father-in-law: a concrete expert and handy man extraordinaire and, my mother-in-law: a professional cleaner and smart worker. having built their own home a couple of times, they were able to both guide us through the renovations. rej also had me helping out more than i thought my well-manicured soft pink hands would be able to manage!

the key to how we pulled off was the clear vision we had of the cafe and the horse-like working attitude of the daigle family. rej was instrumental in everything we renovated and louisette was just constantly cleaning or painting.

we spent day and night for two months transforming a tired looking old place into the haven of today. we opened the doors on dec 8th 2007 with a cafe in working order. there is no doubt that without rej and louisette there would be no cafe haven.

thank you very much, both of you.
