sherwood park found its shorts

wow, what a lot of white legs have come out this week! yep, west canada has suddenly found the summer sun and today was a whopping 28 outside. we started the first day of this long weekend very much how we expect it to be for the next two days: dead quiet. what i have learnt rather quickly is this....with the weather over here being so dramatic, people's lives are much more black and white. not even four weeks ago we were still seeing the last of the snow and so people were huddling over coffee. now we have beautiful warm weather and everyone is out in their gardens or off to the mountains to make the most of the long weekend. it's cold you stay in, if its warm you get out there right away. so yes, cafe's are quiet rightly not too high on people's agenda right now. everyone needs a few weeks to shake off the winter blues, tidy up the garden, enjoy the first few rays of sun and start a new wardrobe.

one pleasing result today was finding out how to control the warmth within the cafe. i tell you something, it is not amusing in the slightest to be stood near five fridges and an oven when you don't know how to work the a/c. julie was a genius and figured it out (simply by turning the other thermostat to 'cool'...smart girl, it's why i married her). the staff will be a lot happier as the place wasn't getting below 24. when you are cooking food, that is not fun to work in.
