finally getting the wine glass rack installed was a happy moment. i have a habit of buying equipment and then hanging on to it forever whilst I try and find a less than obscene hour when we are closed to install it! a classic example is the set of cupboard doors that just need staining and protecting and then they are ready to replace the ugly broken ones in the cafe. i've had the buggers for 2 months now because I never seem to have the time to do the job (or too tired).
but the wine glass rack is up and looks rather impressive as it drops some nine feet down on chains! i am totally impressed how rej (julie's dad) not only did this standing at the very top of a wobbly ladder (you wouldn't get me up there) but also got the rack dead level! indebted as always to the father-in-law.
i've a new stash of liquor (or booze as I like to call it). we sell nine different beers, three of which are fruit beers, and seven different wines (two of which are by the glass). it is going to take time to get bottle sales moving as people do not necessarily associate a cafe as a place to have an alcoholic drink. customers always seem surprised that we sell it and some even ask if they have to buy food too in order to have a beer!
nonetheless, this is an important step in cafe haven's life as it really helps differentiate us from the usual throng of coffee chains. we already do that pretty well with the coffee, the food and desserts and our environment, but liquor adds a distinct attitude about the place. julie and i have always said that any liquor served was about enjoying a drink and not to offer the opportunity to get drunk. i guess what we meant was to avoid selling hard liquor - it's just not an area or perception we want to encourage.
but come on in for a nice glass of wine or surprise yourself with an unusual flavourful beer: that's cafe haven.
